Naked Ladies (Brunsvigia rosea) Come see our burlesque show! Naked ladies are an amaryllis that send up their long, bare flower stalks after all the leaves have died back. They are pink and heavily scented. Most of them at the Farm are to the south of the kitchen, behind the cistern. They are easy to grow and return every year. Another common name for them is Belladonna lily. Amaryllis is a monotypic (only one species) genus of plant also known as the Belladonna Lily or naked ladies. The single species, Amaryllis belladonna, is a native of South Africa, particularly the rocky southwest region near the Cape. It is often confused with the Hippeastrum, a flowering bulb commonly sold in the winter months for its propensity to bloom indoors.
